DETAILED TECHNICAL & CONTENT GUIDELINES ...
please contact us if you need help/advice with any of the following

TECHNICAL:
209shorts should be normalised or compressed for broadcast depending on the content of the work in question.

Normal speech at close quarters should peak between -5 and -3 dB where 0dB represents the top of the scale. Loud crashes, music, explosions, shouting etc that is in a close-quarters context should peak around -3 to 0dB

These are very rough guidelines only and it may be that your work demands particular audio dynamics within it.

What we wish to avoid, for example, are sound works of someone whispering which has been delivered to us with a peak signal overall of -15dB or -20dB. Such a work will be very hard to hear on our broadcast and will require engineering by us, a task we are not keen on doing for obvious reasons of artistic interference.

However, if such a 'threshold' work is actually your aim then please advise us with your submission.

CONTENT:
All 209shorts must comply with the Ofcom Broadcast Code - incredibly summarised below ...

1) Protect U18s (particularly U15s) and vulnerable adults
2) Do not include harmful or offensive material
3) Do not incite or encourage criminal behaviour
4) Respect religious beliefs and do not exploit people's vulnerabilities in a religious context
5) If you include factual content, please be impartial and accurate in your conveyance of facts
6) Be fair to actual third party individuals and groups, if included in your audio in any way
7) Do not make radio shorts about UK or European elections or referendums which are happening or are scheduled to happen in the near future unless you know the Ofcom/Electoral Commission broadcast rules concerning these events
8) Do not infringe the privacy (and/or Human Rights) of individuals or groups

This list was not easy to make in any way....and simply does not reflect the true content or aims of the letter of the Code...if you have any concerns about your work's compliance please do get in touch and we will provide all the help we can in advising you.
209radio is committed to supporting artistic integrity and experimentation but are bound to comply with Ofcom's regulations.
